Supervisor Spiegel Recognizes October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month

October 4, 2022

During today's board meeting, I recognized October as National Domestic Violence Awareness Month as a way to connect and unite individuals and organizations working on domestic violence issues while raising awareness.

Domestic violence is prevalent in every community and affects everyone regardless of age, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or nationality. 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been physically abused by an intimate partner, and 1 in 5 women and 1 in 7 men have been severely physically abused by an intimate partner.

This National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Supervisor Spiegel encourages all of our communities to acknowledge and support domestic violence survivors and be a voice for its victims to ensure domestic violence is not tolerated and that all people have an opportunity to thrive without fear of violence or abuse.

Supervisor Spiegel had the honor of presenting a proclamation on National Domestic Violence Awareness Month to the CEO of MarSell Consulting and Mental Health, Martinez (Marty) Sellers. MarSell Consulting & Mental Health Services is an agency whose mission is to see each family and hear each family's story. Learn more...
