At today's Board meeting, the Eastern Municipal Water District (EMWD) honored the County of Riverside with the Water Champion Award.

"This is the first time we acknowledge an organization versus an individual," says EMWD's General Manager, Joe Mouawad. "I think that speaks volumes about this Board's commitment and dedication to assisting and improving the quality of life for the constituents and the communities that we mutually serve."

Each year, the EMWD Water Champion Award is presented to an individual or organization that shows exemplary service in helping EMWD achieve its mission of providing safe, reliable, economical, and environmentally sustainable water, wastewater, and recycled water service to the community.

EMWD is the largest water provider in Riverside County.

Past EMWD Water Champion Award winners include Senator Dianne Feinstein, Congressman Ken Calvert, Assemblywoman Anna Caballero, former State Sen. Bill Emmerson, former Riverside County Supervisor Marion Ashley, retired U.S. Bureau of Reclamation area manager Bill Steele, and former California Gov. Jerry Brown.
